May Monthly Special: Color

Back in January, we devoted a month to black and white. Now it's time to look at color. In the photo I posted yesterday, the pink leash caught my attention. In the photo above, the bright pink umbrellas in the foreground contrast with austere tones of L'Église de la Madeleine in the background. In those photos, black and white would not have the same impact. If you shoot film, you are probably used to making the "color vs. black and white" decision in advance, and that decision likely influences how and what you shoot. In digital photography, however, you make the choice later (if at all). I would guess that most family snapshots are taken in color by default rather than by active choice. But this month we are not going to take color for granted.

Here are just a few of the questions we might explore:
  • How can we create expressive images with color?
  • How do we fine-tune color?
  • What kind of emotions do different colors evoke?
  • What do all those color spaces (RGB, sRGB, LAB, CMYK) mean, and which one(s) should I use?
It's a broad topic that should leave you ample room for experimentation. Please post your work and come back here to link to your post. I love seeing work from any level of experience. Hope to see yours.
